Foam Aluminum Experiment Project


During internship in BUZAO. Independent project.

The erroneous artificial material, the cement hydration reacts with the foamed aluminum to form a structural bond, which constitutes the inevitability of the mate- rial relationship, the bare structure exhibits the traits, and the expressiveness exists in the structure.
Combined two highly industrialized materials, have cement flow into foam aluminum, drawing striking contrasts between the detail of crooked seam line and the stiff outline of the object.

Cement and metal are two main component in architecture. They supplement the weakness of each other. The use of cement in combination with foamed aluminum in this project is in response to the tradition of industrial production.
When cement fills up the gap between two pieces of foam aluminum, the texture of the crooked seam line is similar to the traditional oriental craftwork: gold repair.
